Life at the Mountains

Life in mountains are very difficult compared to the flat lands or cities. When a person from the city plans to visit the mountain area, he or she feels life there must be just like ours, simple and easy whereas in reality it is not at all like that. What my point is ; in the cities almost every thing is at reaching distance, public transports are available easily, you just make a phone call and the stuff you want to purchase will reach home and you make the payment, even if you don't want to go out for shopping you have a choice;in the mountains you have no choice.

Here in the mountains just to buy vegetables you will have to walk miles, that too vegetables will be available if you live near a small town area otherwise you will have to eat what ever grows in your garden. Children walk miles to go to the school as well as back home. No school in the mountains have got buses or cars to drop the children, these schools are normally government run schools. When you have to do marketing you will be traveling at-least 20 to 40 km , 20 to 40 km in the hills means a whole day will go by because hardly 2 buses per day will be going to the city and back, those buses will cover all the stoppages on the way and back.

In winter days people are exposing them selves in the sun to keep them selves warm. They wait for the sun to come and they literally chase the sun from 7 in the morning to 11 am until the sun becomes really strong.

Some people can afford to buy warm clothing for themselves and their family but some of them are not so lucky so they have to rely on the sun. In in evening they will burn fire-wood and sit around the fire till they eat their food, after eating head straight to bed.

During the month of December,January and February, old and unwell people really have a tough time.

Drinking water is a big issue in the mountains, government water connections are not there, one hand pump in every village has been dug by the government but some of them don't seem to give water in winter months due to the dry season, some times women walk 3 to 6 kilo meters just to bring a bucket of water, mostly people rely on the river, water falls and water springs etc.

In this picture people are making their plots ready for sowing crops such as Corn, Wheat, and Vegetables.

Small town near by to buy vegetable and grocery will look something like this .

Heart of the mountain town market will look like this; people purchasing and traveling .
